Bespoke tours of Japan for multi-generational family groups:

Travel with the people closest to you

We ensure all age-groups can travel comfortably together.

Multi-Generational Inclusive Private Tours

Every year we welcome multi-generational family groups to Japan, with grandparents, parents and grandchildren all travelling together.

We know that groups that span several generations can have interests and needs that vary widely – whether that's some additional time relaxing for older family members while the younger ones explore, or additional mobility support for family members that need it.

When you plan a tour with us, we'll make sure every member of your group has the best experience of Japan possible, and that nobody is left feeling like they can't keep up.

Whether you're planning a reunion with distant relatives or a smaller trip for your close family,  we will provide everything you need from start to finish as your trip planner, tour guide and logistics provider too. We’ll even be your family portrait photographer if you need it.

We put your comfort and enjoyment first

Our chartered vehicles are designed with accessibility in mind. They feature a small step so that senior guests, those with disabilities and young children alike can enter and exit safely and easily.

We provide special wheelchair-compatible vehicles with ramps and secure attachments to ensure wheelchair users can travel in complete safety and comfort. These spacious vehicles allow your entire family to travel together so nobody feels left out.

Our multi-generational inclusive private tours prioritise inclusivity, comfort, and flexibility, so that you can concentrate on having an unforgettable experience of Japan with the people closest to you. We take care of the details so you can focus on making the best of memories together.

You can view the full list of accessibility services we offer on our accessible travel page here.

Special occasions and exploring your heritage

Many of our family groups plan their bookings around something significant to their family. You might be travelling to celebrate an important birthday, wedding anniversary or graduation, or even attending a family reunion!

Whatever you might require, we and our drivers will be sensitive to the importance of the occasion and will work closely with you to ensure everyone in your group can have their ideal experience, and that the occasion is truly memorable.

Exploring your roots

We receive a large number of bookings from family groups looking to trace their Japanese heritage, conduct research into their genealogy, and to visit locations of special importance to their ancestors.

Our connections with local experts will enable you to find that authentic experience of Japan, those specific regional customs and locations, and put what matters to you and your family first. It's not a problem if your ancestors' historic home isn't on the traditional tourist routes – if it's important to you, we'll make sure it's part of your travel plans.

We work with you to make the necessary arrangements for different mobility, medical and rest needs.

To help with our planning, here are a few points to consider and discuss with us when you're making your booking:

 Mobility:

  • How can you minimise walking between itinerary items?

  • Are there elevators at the subway stop? How long will transfers take?

  • Are there stairs at the locations you are going to?

 Rest & privacy:

  • Where will a rest be taken or a private quiet area be found if it is needed?

  • Where amenities are close by that can entertain small children?

  • Where are safe areas for breastfeeding young children?

Medical:

  • How will medical support be accessed if it is needed?

  • How can child care products be located?

Alternatives:

  • What alternative to outdoor activities are planned if it rains?

  • What flexibility does our itinerary have if something changes?

Logistics:

  • Which hotels offer connected rooms or are good for families?

  • Do the restaurants we are visiting offer table-and-chair seating, or are we required to sit on the floor?

Frequently Asked Questions

1) We are travelling with young children as well as elderly. Can our family fit into one vehicle?

We recommend the 10-seater Toyota HIACE vans or a 18-seater microbus for everyone in the multi-generational trip to travel together comfortably. Additionally, we also provide infant and child seats, as well as WHILL powerchairs for rent to make sure that the entire family travels safely and comfortably on the road.

2) We have no idea on how to plan a multi-generational trip in Japan. Do you have any sample itineraries?

Take a look at our blog article for some ideas or our sample itineraries.

3) We are worried that we will run into a medical emergency and we cannot communicate to ask for help.

When you book a TokudAw tour, you will be connected to our online concierge team who is multi-lingual and would be able to interprete you requests. The driver-guide would always be at a hotel within 20-mins driving distance from you, so there would be someone from our team to attend to your requests at short notice. We advise our guests to purchase travel insurance, and the TokudAw team can work seamlessly with the medical team to provide the assistance you need.
