In Japan, the cost of transport is based on both the time and distance traveled, which includes the return journey to the car depot.
For example, if your trip ends in Hakone, the clock doesn’t stop when you get dropped off. The vehicle still has to make the return trip to Tokyo, which could take around 1.5 hours. So even if you're only using the vehicle for 6.5 hours, we still have to account for the full 8 hours to cover the round trip, as this is the standard in Japan for private vehicles.
It’s how the system works here, and you’ll find the same applies to any private charter service.
