Step-by-step guide to getting your Universal Studios Japan Tickets
Heading to Universal Studios Japan (USJ) soon but feeling overwhelmed by the ticket buying process? Fret not, let us guide you through the important pointers in deciding the best tickets and passes to buy for your next visit to USJ! For a convenient way to purchase your tickets, head over to the official Universal Studios Japan ticketing website for a hassle free and peace of mind purchasing process.
Purchasing Standard Universal Studio Pass
In order to gain admission to USJ, visitors would need to obtain a Studio Pass (Park Entry Ticket). This is the most basic admission ticket for visitors entering the park. Universal Studios sells 5 different kinds of standard passes – the 1 Day Studio Pass, 1.5 Day Studio Pass, 2 Day Studio Pass, Twilight Pass (for entry after 1500 JST) (トワイライト・パス), and 1 Day Studio Pass for individuals with disabilities (障がい者向け割引スタジオ・パス). However, it seems that the Twilight Pass and 1 Day Studio Pass (for individuals with disabilities) can only be bought via the Japanese webpage (and the language setting has to be in Japanese), which requires guests to collect their tickets at the physical ticketing counters at the park after completing the online purchase.
For the other 3 passes (1 Day Studio Pass, 1.5 Day Studio Pass and 2 Day Studio Pass), you can purchase them via the Universal Studio Japan official webpage in English . Please note that ticket prices vary according to the date of entry. In addition, ticket sales begin 2 months in advance (for e.g., tickets for 3rd June 2024 will go on sale on 3rd April 2024), so it would be a good idea to plan your trip early and purchase your tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!
After selecting the type of pass and quantity of tickets you wish to purchase, proceed to select your date.
Here is a summary on the prices of the different admission passes Universal Studios has to offer.
Add-on purchase: Universal Studio Express Pass (Universal Express Pass with an Area Timed Entry Ticket)
But hold on! What about tips on beating the long snaking queues in Universal Studios? Well, to make the most of your time in the park, you can consider adding on the Universal Express Pass, which allows you to skip the regular queue lines at most of the attractions within the park. While you can get the express passes on the day itself at the ticketing booths, it is highly recommended to get them online before your visit as there is a very high chance these passes will be sold out on by the day of admission.
Express passes come in 2 types, the Universal Express pass 4 (which allows guests to shorten their waiting time at 4 different attractions one time each) and the Universal Express pass 7 (which allows guests to shorten their waiting time at 7 different attractions once each). Please be aware that you will need to purchase the standard Studio Pass on top of the Studio Express Pass as the Studio Express Pass only gives you priority queue at selected attractions but does not include the admission fee into Universal Studios.
Time Designated rides: In addition, the Universal Express Passes come with Time-designated rides and non-Time-designated rides. Please be sure to select the time slots for the Time-designated rides when you purchase the express passes online and remember to make your way to the respective areas for the rides on at the stipulated timings on the day of your visit! In particular, the time designation is important for you to gain access popular areas in the park like Super Nintendo World. In short, the time designation of the rides in the different areas also gives you access to the respective sections of the Universal Studio theme park during the stipulated entry time!
Here is a summary of the different Studio Express Passes available for purchase:
Universal Express Pass 7:
Similar to purchasing the standard Studio Pass, after selecting the type of Studio Express Pass you wish to purchase, you will then select the date that you wish to purchase the Studio Express Pass. In this simulation, all other dates other than 20th April 2024 are shown as ‘Disabled’ as we have previously chosen 20th April 2024 for the standard Studio Pass admission ticket.
After selecting the date of the Express Pass, you will arrive at a page that allows you to choose your preferred timings for the respective time-designated rides.
If the selections were made correctly, you should be able to see your choice of Studio Pass and the Universal Express Pass reflected on the checkout page. Please make sure that you have the correct dates selected!
On Entering Super Nintendo World: Time Entry requirement
If you’re intending to visit Super Nintendo World, please take note: you will need either an Area Timed Entry Ticket: Advanced Booking or an Area Timed Entry Ticket/Standby Entry Ticket. This is not an issue if you have purchased a Universal Studio Express Pass (Universal Express Pass with an Area Timed Entry Ticket) as mentioned above that includes time designated rides in Super Nintendo WorldTM, but if you did not manage to get any of the Universal Studio Express Pass that comes with the Time-designation for the respective rides (i.e., you only managed to purchase the Universal Studio Pass for standard admission), you will need to get an Area Timed Entry Ticket/Standby Entry Ticket separetly. This can be done either through the Universal Studios Mobile Application after entering the park on the day itself, or through a Park Ticket Kiosk. However, it is highly likely that most Time Entry slots would have been allocated to visitors with the Express passes, meaning that it may be difficult to get an Area Timed Entry Ticket on that day itself.
